New 7 Wonders of the World

We owe the list of the New 7 Wonders of the World to the New 7 Wonders Foundation founded by Swiss filmmaker Bernard Weber.

With the help of experts and an online vote, 21 finalists were selected from an initial 200 contenders.

The grand finale took place in July 2007. Here, the New 7 Wonders of the World were presented in a television show. The winners were:

- Chichén Itzá

- Great Wall of China

- Christ the Redeemer (Statue)

- Colosseum

- Machu Picchu

- Petra

- Taj Mahal

After the announcement and during the process, however, there was repeated criticism from various nations. UNESCO also distanced itself from the choice.

In addition to the unscientific procedure of delimitation, the possibility of multiple voting was also criticized. Some tourist associations had literally called on people to participate in the election (multiple times).
