The New 7 Wonders of Nature were selected by the New 7 Wonders of Nature Foundation. In a global poll, 261 locations from 222 countries were up for election. Beforehand, more than 400 nominations were collected worldwide.
Finally, in 2009, a panel of experts selected 21 finalists. In a further voting round, people around the world were able to determine the final winners by text message, telephone or internet.
The winners were:
- Amazon Rainforest and River
- Hạ Long Bay
- Iguazú Falls
- Jeju Island
- Komodo Island (National Park)
- Table Mountain (National Park)
- Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park
